Lots of cool stuff happening during hot days of Whole Hawg
By JERRY FINK MANAGING EDITOR,

Whole Hawg Days July 27-29

With temperatures pushing close to the century mark, it must be that time of the year again: Whole Hawg Days!

The Days will be Thursday, Friday and Saturday, July 27, 28 and 29.

According to an extended weather forecast, actual high temperatures on those days are expected to be around 94 degrees with a heat index probably close to 100.

But that’s OK! There will be lots of cool activities taking place during the 39th Annual Whole Hawg Days.

A parade, pig cook-off , arts & crafts, poker run, car show, rodeo, food trucks, carnival and Saturday Cruise Night are just a few of the events that should entice folks to get away from the air conditioning for a few hours and enjoy one of the busiest weekends of the year for Eufaula.

The parade begins at 7 p.m. Saturday. Paraders will meet at the high school parking lot at 6 p.m.

Rodeo

The Eufaula Round Up Club Rodeo will be held at the McIntosh County Fairgrounds starting at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

In addition to all of the classic rodeo events, the three days will include Mutton Bustin’ and Calf Scramble.

Admission is $8; those six and under, free.

Pig Cook Off

Top prize for the best pork cook in the First Division will be $1,200; 2nd place will be $500; 3rd place $225.

Best ribs winner and best mystery meat winner will receive $200 each.

Chefs will pick up their pork at 4 p.m. Friday at the Community Center, 121 High Street.

Cooking will take place Saturday until 3 p.m., when the judging begins at the Chamber of Commerce office, 301 N. Main St.

At 5 p.m. competitors will hand out free pulled pork sandwiches.

Officials are strict about this competition. There are several grounds for dismissal, including: – cutting or removal of the ID tag and on the meat – failure to cook all the meat – selling meat to the public – bringing outside meat in to cook for judging – cooking meat outside of city limits (unless pre-approved) – pellet smokers or thermostatic controlled – failure to give away 90 percent of all meat – failure to give out free sandwiches

Band Boosters’ Arts & Crafts

The Pride of Eufaula Band Boosters is getting a little bit of a jump on this year’s Hawg Days. In the past they held the popular event on Friday and Saturday.

This year the group will set up Thursday evening in Posey Park.

In addition to arts and crafts, there will be a variety of food trucks and a carnival at the site. The carnival may not begin until after dusk.

Among the booths will be: – Flowfox Designs – Owl Be Bougie – SimplyCustom Hats – Linked by Stevi jewelry – Joanna & Co. (Tinsels, feathers, colorful hair braids) – Rip’s Sugar Shack – Dunk Tank by Pride of Eufaula Band Kids – Live chainsaw art – Green Country Bounce – Okie Artist Caricatures – Show it off (ax throwing and escape room) – and much more Jokers Wild Poker Run

The Poker Runs begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, ends at 4 p.m.

Prize money is based on 500 entries.

First prize in this exciting event is $20,000; second is $7,500; third is $4,000; fourth is $2,500 and fifth is $1,250.

The one with the low hand will receive $1,000; any two hearts will receive $100 fast cash; Chamber Business Drawing for $500; also 50/50 raffle tickets are available.

Registration is Friday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the Chamber office, 301 N. Main St. and Saturday, 7 a.m. to noon at Island Xtreme Bar & Grill.

Corporate sponsors include Creek Nation Casino; City of Eufaula and Xtreme Resort.

Participating marinas include: Xtreme Cove Marina; Sammy’s Wake Shop; Belle Starr Marina; Nine Marina; Evergreen Marina and Fountainhead Marina.

The Whole Hawg Days Car Show, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, begins at 10 a.m. Saturday in Kiwanis Park.
