“My Lord and my God!” exclaims Thomas when the resurrected Jesus suddenly appears among his disciples as they sit in their upper room a week after his death. Thomas was absent the first time Jesus appeared and had refused to believe Jesus was alive unless he could touch Jesus’ wounds himself. But he instantly recognizes Jesus the moment Jesus speaks to him. “Have you believed because you have seen me?” Jesus asks. “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe” (John 20:19-29).
