Sooner quarterback Kyler Murray was named the Heisman Trophy winner beating out Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa and Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins. Murray became the seventh University of Oklahoma player to win the award and made history as the first time back-to-back winners (Baker Mayfield) came from the same university. Murray moved to the top with yet another electric performance in a 39-27 Big 12 Championship Game victory over Texas. He threw for 379 yards and three touchdowns on 25-of-34 passing. He also rushed ten times for 39 yards in yet another 400-yard outing.
Murray has thrown for more than 4,000 yards and 40 touchdowns to only seven interceptions on the season. On top of that, Murray is just a shade shy of 900 rushing yards, with another 11 scores on 123 carries. In total, he has accounted for 4,945 yards and 51 touchdowns.
The Oklahoma quarterback received 517 first-place votes and 2,167 points. Tagovailoa finished with 299 first-place votes and 1,871 total points. Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins finished third with 46 first-place votes and 783 total points.
