Both Eufaula Ironheads’ basketball programs swept the Vian Wolverines Monday night at Vian giving new Eufaula head basketball coach Jeff Oliver as head of the Ironhead programs. John Bailey and Khelil Deere put on a shooting show in the second half for a combined 28 points with 18 points coming in the fourth period to win 44-33. It was a nip-n-tuck game in the first half as both teams struggled in the paint by applying great defense. Eufaula (1-0) led 19-14 at the halftime break. The Wolverines outscored Eufaula 10-4 in the third period, but the Ironheads dominated the final period 21-9. Nick Jones added five points. Bailey led his team with 16 points and Deere finished with 12-points.

    Girls Action

The Lady Ironheads (1-0) bombarded Vian with excellent ball movement, rebounding and defense to win handily 41-14. Jordan Jones led Eufaula with 11 points. Vian had no answer for Eufaula’s defensive effort by Ashley Mills, Journi James, Jordan Jones, and cast. As Vian tried to focus on senior Macayla Needham, Eufaula opened up their perimeter shooting to further their lead. Eufaula led 23-5 to start the final period where they outscored Vian 18-9 to seal the 41-14 victory. James, Needham and Kiaya Burns finished six points each and Mills added four points.

“I thought both teams played well against well-coached Vian teams,” Eufaula head coach Jeff Oliver said.
