WARNER – Connors State College will be hosting an informational meeting for those interested in learning more about the College’s pilot industrial hemp program on Nov. 1 at 6:30 p.m. The open forum will be held at the LLC Auditorium on the Warner Campus.
Industrial hemp is grown specifically for the uses of its derived products. The fast-growing crop can be refined into a variety of commercial items including paper, textiles, clothing, biodegradable plastics, paint, insulation, biofuel, food, and animal feed.
Recent legislation outlined that those wishing to grow industrial hemp within the state must partner with a participating college or university. There is no fee to participate in the open forum, however participating in the pilot project with require and upfront fee of $75 per acre. Location and acreage of the property being used to grow, must be defined upon enrollment. In return, Connors will be responsible for collecting and disseminating the production data.
Priority will initially be focused on within Connors service area, which includes Adair, Cherokee, Haskell, McIntosh, Muskogee, Sequoyah counties as well as portions of Okmulgee and Wagoner counties.
