Beef Show Team members work with breeding beef cattle. Members work with the college farm feeding, grooming and complete daily maintenance of the herds. Students are responsible for preparing tack and equipment for the shows. They break the animals to lead and train them for display in the show ring. Connors State has a rich tradition in the quality of the animal herds at CSC. The college farm is over 100 years old. Currently the farm has multiple breeds that are exhibited by the team members. The cattle that are shown at CSC are Simmental, Angus, Charolais and Santa Gertrudis. Students assist at Purebred Production Sales and County Livestock Shows in the area. Team members are also responsible for grooming the bulls and their presentation and handling during the college’s bull sales in December and April of each year. Show team members gain valuable experience and skills in livestock training and handling as well as an insight in the beef industry.
CSC’s Show Team travels and exhibits at the State Fair of Oklahoma, Tulsa State Fair, American Royal in Kansas City, KS, NAILE in Louisville, KY and the 4-State Fair in Texarkana, TX. In the spring semester, the team will compete at the National Western Stock Show in Denver, CO, Fort Worth Rodeo and Livestock Show and the Dixie National Livestock Show and Rodeo in Jackson, MS. The Connors State College Show Team coach is Todd Trennepohl. “The Show Team members get the opportunity to show at some of the most prestigious show across the U.S. and the opportunity to network with other cattle breeders.“
Show team members have just recently repurposed a building at the college farm to utilize for the livestock and the team activities. The facilities house a tack room, wash rack, feed room and grooming area. Connors State College is a two-year agriculture college located in east central Oklahoma.
