Small art, big legacy

OKLAHOMA CITY – Measuring just 12 inches square, diverse art by 175 Oklahoma artists is featured at the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition’s 29th annual 12x12 Art Fund-raiser at 7 p.m.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Measuring just 12 inches square, diverse art by 175 Oklahoma artists is featured at the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition’s 29th annual 12×12 Art Fund-raiser at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28 at 50 Penn Place (1900 Northwest Expressway).

The fundraiser will include live music and local restaurants for a one-night-only event.

The fundraiser raises funds for the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition (OVAC) to help artists throughout Oklahoma to realize their potential through education, exposure, and funding.

This year’s party will be bigger than ever, as OVAC celebrates 30 years with a $200,000 campaign to support their Grants for Artists program.

“Our Grants for Artists program is crucial for artists in Oklahoma to have the means to stretch their practice, attend educational opportunities, and acquire needed equipment,” says Executive Director, Krystle Brewer. “Thirty years ago, OVAC was founded to provide funding for individual artists- something that didn’t exist at all at the time. And since then, we have awarded over $325,000 to artists through grants, awards, and art sales.”

For the 12×12 Art Fund-raiser, each artist creates a work sized twelve-by-twelve inches.

The artwork is sold in a suspenseful silent and blind auction, meaning bidders will not know how much others have bid.

Bids for each piece begin at $175.

Collectors who fear losing a piece of art through bidding may “Buy It Now” to trump the auction.

The first 30 who purchase art at the Buy it Now price receive an Art Collector Swag Bag, an exclusive collector bag filled with goodies such as gift cards, product samples, and other promotional items.

Additionally, attendees can purchase $5 chances to win prizes, such as a Coffee of the Month Membership from Leap Coffee Roasters, dead Center Film Festival passes, Kendra Scott jewelry, and more.

The Bank of America Gallery in Leadership Square in downtown Oklahoma City (211 N. Robinson) hosts a free preview exhibition now through Sept. 24.

Starting in mid-September, audiences can also catch an online preview of the art at www.12x12okc.org.

To see the entire exhibition, art lovers will have to attend the one-night event.

In addition to the art, 12×12 Art Fundraiser attendees enjoy a taste of the city with hors-d’oeuvres and sweets provided by nearly 30 popular local restaurants.

There will be a special performance by Perpetual Motion Dance, a vinyl dance party with DJ Jon Mooneyham, and portraits by local caricature artist Hector Lopez. Dress is evening casual and drinks are served from a cash bar.

Tickets to the 29th Annual 12×12 Art Fund-raiser are $30 in advance and $35 at the door.

They are available by phone at 405-879-2400, or online at www.12x12okc.org.

For more than 30 years, OVAC has supported Oklahoma’s visual arts and artists and their power to enrich communities.

The 30th Anniversary 12×12 Art Fundraiser is sponsored by the Sorocco Family Foundation, John Marshall, John McNeese, Ray Anthony and Elizabeth Brown, and many other generous business and individual sponsors. OVAC is an Allied Arts member agency.

For more information, please visit www.12x12okc.org or call OVAC at 405-879-2400.
