Paws N Claws –Eufaula, OK, a small volunteer group that set out to help the City of Eufaula find homes for their pound pups, has now started a second social media page to help with community animals in rural areas and abroad. This helps Paws N Claws prioritizes the pound population while the new Facebook page, PNC Community Pets, Eufaula OK, will focus on the rest of the area animals.
Volunteer Lori Powell- Fells was grateful when her daughter Olivia “Livy” Powell Shackelford said she could create and maintain another social media page to help with lost or found dogs, abused or abandoned dogs or animals needing to be rehomed due to their owners failing health.
The new Facebook page is titled PNC Community Pets, Eufaula, OK and Livy would love for everyone in McIntosh County to like and follow both social media pages to help as many animals as possible in the local area.
“We are seeing more animal abandonment, abuse and neglect not only in McIntosh County but everywhere,” Livy said. “People just don’t understand that the consequences of not getting their pets spayed or neutered far outweigh the cost of a one-time fee to fix them. When animals are not properly cared for, to include adequate food, water, shelter and spaying or neutering, then they are more likely to have unwanted litters, more health problems and could even start to display behavioral issues. All these obstacles only increase the risk of them being abandoned because they are not adoptable. Most shelters are overcrowded so unfortunately every day many healthy, adoptable and treatable pets are being euthanized due to a lack of space and funding. So as a community we have to start dealing with these ugly issues or they will only get worse with time. We have to use the resources that we have today to make a better future tomorrow.”
Residents can contact either Livy at 918618-3895 or Lori at 918-618-3810 to post lost or abandoned animals from the local area. Then with the help of community hopefully more animals can be rescued and rehomed rather than disregarded like trash.
As a reminder neither Paws N Claws nor PNC Community Pets can take in any abandoned pups, kittens, dogs or cats. However, social media followers can send in photos and any information on the animal that they are trying to rehome and it will be posted.
“We know we can’t save them all, but together we can make a difference in our communities and save the ones can.
For those in need of a little dog food or cat food, we also have a pet pantry located inside the Eufaula Indian Journal that is open Monday through Friday from 1 p.m. – 5p.m. Donations of dry and wet dog food and cat food are always appreciated at the pantry, as are miscellaneous items like bowls, collars, leashes, etc. We are grateful to be a small part of the solution to what seems like a neverending problem.”
If any of your pets are not spayed or neutered please contact one of the following local veterinarian clinics and schedule their appointment today.
