This week brought a moment of recognition I am honored to share with the people of House District 13.
I received the Defender of Biblical Business Award from the Christian Employers Alliance. Out of all 149 members of the Oklahoma Legislature, only 50 legislators, including 13 senators and 37 House members, earned this distinction after an extensive review of more than 5,000 individual votes.
While I have always tried to approach public service with a clear foundation, I will admit I was both surprised and humbled to learn I was ranked No. 1 among those recognized. With so many strong leaders serving our state, that distinction is something I do not take lightly.
This recognition is based on the Oklahoma Biblical Business Index, which evaluates legislation through the lens of Scripture and longstanding Judeo-Christian principles. It emphasizes the importance of fair economic policy, resisting government favoritism and supporting public safety. More information about the index is available at bbindex.org.
I have often said that if you start with the Bible and finish with the Constitution, you will have a strong and steady compass. That belief continues to guide my decisions at the Capitol, especially as Oklahoma faces increasing pressure from out-of-state interests promoting policies that do not reflect our values.
I remain committed to standing firm for faith, freedom and the principles that strengthen our families, businesses and communities.
Outside of legislative work, it was a great week to connect with young Oklahomans and support some of our state’s traditions.
The Oklahoma Youth Expo Legislative Showmanship event was a highlight. I had the opportunity to show a hog alongside Webbers Falls student Chloee Mc-Guire. Events like this are a reminder of the hard work and dedication of our 4-H and FFA students, and I am proud to support them.
Also this week, we hosted Capitol Kids Camp, where legislators and legislative staff families were invited to the Capitol to take part in activities and sessions that offered a firsthand look at the work we do here. One of the most popular activities was the scavenger hunt, where kids explored the building while learning about the Capitol’s history and monuments.
It is always encouraging to see young people take an interest in how their government operates.
Thank you again for the opportunity to serve. I will continue working every day to represent the values that make Oklahoma a great place to call home.
