A 53-year-old Eufaula woman died Sunday afternoon after a drowning at Lake Eufaula in Pittsburg County.
The incident occurred around 3:10 p.m. at the 9 South Swim Area, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Authorities said Robecca Garrett was attempting to assist two juveniles in the water when she went under. Bystanders pulled her from the lake.
Garrett was transported by emergency medical services to McAlester Regional Hospital, where she was pro- nounced dead.
Conditions at the time were clear and the water temperature was 53 degrees. Officials noted that personal flotation devices were not in use.
The incident was investigated by Trooper Tyler James of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Marine Enforcement Division, with assistance from the Pittsburg County Sheriff ’s Office, Community EMS and the Longtown Fire Department.
