The City of Eufaula continued its work on the community’s first comprehensive plan last week by hosting a series of stakeholder meetings on Monday and Tuesday, March 16–17.
Over the course of two days, the City, alongside its planning consultant, Freese and Nichols, Inc. (FNI), conducted eight stakeholder sessions, each lasting approximately an hour.
The sessions were organized by focus area to ensure a wide range of perspectives were represented. Stakeholder groups included small business, historical context, arts and culture, government and non-profit organizations, lake and tourism, developers, recreation, and healthcare.
Participants included local business owners, community leaders, non-profit representatives, healthcare profession-als, developers, and residents with strong ties to Eufaula’s history and culture. Collectively, the meetings produced a wide range of input that will help shape the direction of the comprehensive plan.
Throughout the sessions, participants were asked a series of guiding questions designed to capture both current perspectives and long-term aspirations for the community. These included: What makes Eufaula unique? Why did you choose to move to Eufaula—or, if you grew up here, what has kept you here? What is your vision for Eufaula over the next 25 years? And what aspects of the community need to be preserved?
Discussions also explored topics such as economic development opportunities, preservation of Eufaula’s historical identity, expansion of recreational amenities, support for local arts and culture, tourism development, housing and development trends, and access to healthcare services.
These stakeholder meetings are a key component of the comprehensive planning process, helping ensure that the final plan reflects input from a broad crosssection of Eufaula. The feedback gathered will be used by FNI and City staff as they continue drafting plan elements and refining recommendations.
The comprehensive plan will serve as a longrange guide for Eufaula’s growth and development through 2050, addressing areas such as land use, infrastructure, transportation, economic development, and quality of life.
The planning process will continue in the coming months, with additional opportunities for public input as the City works toward a targeted completion date of February 2027. If you would like to provide direct input into the process, please email Plan@CityofEufaulaOK. com, or call 918-689-2534.
