Ty Dodd, Eufaula’s Gentle Giant, receives interest from Minnesota Vikings
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR,

One of Eufaula’s best linemen is completing his senior season at East Central University in Ada. Dodd, (6’6”, 290 lbs.) is the starting center for the Tigers. Dodd is a versatile player that has played left tackle, left guard and right guard. He has played since his sophomore year after red-shirting his freshman year.

The senior Kinesiology Major has caught the attention of the Minnesota Vikings coaching staff that visited the East Central campus.

“They want him to gain 15 pounds of muscle,” his father Troy Dodd said.

Dodd was a key player on the line for the Eufaula Ironheads when they made the state Class 2A semifinals. Success continues as the Tigers are 6-4 and are coming off a 44-22 thrashing of Southern Arkansas University and a heart breaking 45-35 loss to Henderson State University.

“College football was a big eye-opening experience for me, especially coming from a small town. It was amazing meeting people from all over the country and even the world, all because of foot- ball. Playing college football is extremely hard and pushes you every day, but playing for Coach Newton was a huge stepping-stone. He helped prepare me for the mental challenges that come with college ball, and I’m thankful for the foundation he gave me,” Ty Dodd said.

“I’m very proud of Ty Dodd. He has had an outstanding career. Over the years I have had several players gain scholarships and only two have graduated and played all the way through. Dodd will be my third. That just tells you how hard it is these days for players to finish playing and more importantly graduate. He is an Ironhead through and through and we wish him the best,” Eufaula head coach Larry Newton said.

Dodd and the Tigers will end the regular season when they travel to arch rival Southeastern Oklahoma State University on Nov.15 with a game start at 12 p.m.
