In the wake of Christian speaker and cultural commentator Charlie Kirk’s shocking assassination, our hearts are heavy. Charlie lived to “contend for the faith,” refusing to stay silent when evil tried to muzzle truth. He modeled Jude’s call to fight for the gospel of Jesus Christ even in hostile times.
Jude—half-brother of Jesus—wrote a tiny but bold letter to “contend earnestly for the faith.” (Jude 3) He warns that when believers drift, false teachers creep in like “wolves in sheep’s clothing.” (Matt. 7:15) Their rebellion leads to judgment.
Jude recalls three Old Testament examples. First, the Israelites were rescued from Egypt but grumbled in unbelief; that faithless generation died in the wilderness. (Jude 5) Second, angels who “did not keep their proper domain” followed Satan and are now “reserved in everlasting chains.” (Jude 6) Third, Sodom and Gomorrah “gave themselves over to sexual immorality and went after strange flesh” and suffered “the vengeance of eternal fire.” (Jude 7) They all started well, but they did not finish well.
Grace and truth must travel together. We love people who wrestle with any sin—including same-sex attraction— because we are all sinners in need of mercy. Yet the highest respect we can show anyone is to lovingly tell them the truth. God’s Word has not wavered: sin requires repentance and Christ offers forgiveness.
Jude points to the archangel Michael who, when disputing with Satan over Moses’ body, said only, “The Lord rebuke you.” (Jude 9) Even a warrior angel defers to Christ’s authority—so should we. False teachers, however, “walk in the way of Cain… and perish in Korah’s rebellion.” (Jude 11) They are “clouds without water” and “raging waves” destined for “the blackness of darkness forever” (Jude 12-13). They flatter and deceive for their own gain.
How can you fight for your faith? Build yourself up in God’s Word, pray in the Holy Spirit, stay rooted in His love, and wait with hope for Christ’s return. Fight the good fight—follow Jesus. He died for sinners who rejected Him, arose from the dead, ascended to heaven, and will return to destroy evil once and for all. If you’ve drifted from your faith, Christ the Messiah is still relentlessly pursuing you to bring you back.
Charlie Kirk’s life reminds us that Jude’s call isn’t ancient history—it’s a mission for believers today. To “contend earnestly for the faith” (Jude 1:3) means speaking truth even when it’s unpopular, loving people enough to offer both grace and a clear gospel, and trusting Christ for courage when the world pushes back.
That same strength is what we pray for at Lake Eufaula Christian Church. Join us at 415897 Highway 9, Eufaula: small group Bible study at 10 a.m., worship at 11 a.m., and Wednesday night all-age activities at 6:30 p.m. May we rise to Jude’s challenge and Charlie’s example, carrying Christ’s light into a world that desperately needs it.
God Bless You!
