Peterson’s homer not enough in Perry victory

RODNEY HALTOM SPORTS EDITOR

The Perry Lady Maroons exploded for six runs in the second inning and

never looked back, handing the Eufaula Lady Ironheads (3-6) a 10-2 defeat on Saturday, Eufaula’s fifth straight loss.

Perry’s big inning came on patience at the plate and timely hitting. Violet Nolte drove in a run with a groundout, Sayben Owen and Brooklenn Moses each drew bases-loaded walks, Joely Kukuk worked another free pass to score a run, and Naevah Mills capped the rally with a two-run single to make it 6-0.

Eufaula fought back in the bottom of the third when senior Rayleigh Peterson crushed an insidethe- park home run, bringing in two runs and sparking some life for the Lady Ironheads. Peterson finished the day 2-for-3 at the plate, driving in both of Eufaula’s runs.

In the circle, Perry’s Joely Kukuk earned the win, giving up just three hits and two runs over five innings while striking out three. Maddison Lee took the loss for Eufaula after a tough first inning, while Hannah Needham came on in relief and pitched 3.2 innings, allowing four runs on six hits with two strikeouts.

For Perry, Mills led the offense with a 2-for-4 day and two RBIs. Nolte, Evyn Tyler, and Moses each added an RBI, while the Lady Maroons wreaked havoc on the base paths with nine stolen bases.

Despite Peterson’s heroics, Perry’s early surge and aggressive running game proved too much for the Lady Ironheads to overcome.

Lady Ironheads fall to Plainview despite hot start The Eufaula Lady Ironheads came out swinging but couldn’t hold off a late surge, falling 7-2 to the Plainview Lady Indians on Saturday.

Eufaula struck first in the top of the opening frame when Hannah Needham was hit by a pitch and Briley Gragg swiped home, giving the Lady Ironheads early momentum with a 2-0 lead.

But Plainview stormed back in the third inning, flipping the script with a five-run outburst on just one hit. The dagger came on a perfectly placed sacrifice bunt from Bailey Fincher that brought in two runs and put Plainview on top for good, 5-2.

Leah Green got the start in the circle for Eufaula, battling through four innings and scattering five hits while fanning two. Plainview countered with Landree Upshaw, who held the Lady Ironheads to just two hits and two runs across five innings, striking out six.

Rayleigh Peterson and Emma Lovett each tallied a hit for Eufaula.

Mustangs stampede Lady Ironheads 5-2 The Eufaula Lady Ironheads battled hard but came up short against the Oologah Mustangs, falling 5-2 Friday evening.

Oologah wasted no time getting on the board as Preslee Moffett ripped a double in the first inning to plate two runs. The Lady Ironheads clawed back in the third when Hannah Needham’s sacrifice fly tied things up at 2-2.

But the Mustangs answered quickly. Macey Calico’s groundout pushed across the goahead run in the bottom of the third, giving Oologah a lead they never surrendered.

Mustangs pitcher Jocelyn Leak was dominant in the circle, tossing five innings of one-hit ball while striking out eight. Leah Green took the loss for Eufaula, working four innings and striking out three.

At the plate, Ava Neill led Eufaula with a 1-for-2 performance and drove in a run alongside Needham. For Oologah, Burch went 2-for-3 to pace the offense, while Moffett, Emery Edmondson, Calico, and Kam each drove in a run to seal the victory.
