There is a great story about Samuel in 1 Samuel 3. Samuel is a young boy dedicated to serve God and one night he hears someone calling his voice. He realizes after several attempts that it is God that is calling him.
Eli the priest helped Samuel understand that the voice was the voice of God.
The Church is a community of Believers that help each other along the way. There are no Lone Rangers in our faith. We rely on each other to help us grow and develop as followers of Jesus. Just like Eli helped Samuel – the Church exists to help you hear and understand that voice of God.
I believe that God is calling out to us as His people. We sometimes don’t hear because we are not listening, or we don’t know what to listen for.
We have to train our spiritual ears, like a conductor trains his. A good conductor can pick out one instrument out of an orchestra because he knows how to listen.
Samuel did not know at first, but Eli helped him. Seeking the wise counsel of other believers can help you filter the static and hear God calling. I hope that we are all earnestly seeking and following the voice of God.
