The Eufaula Summer Arts program wrapped up in a burst of creativity and celebration on June 12 with a dynamic student performance and art show at the Eufaula Elementary gym.
Over two transformative weeks, students in grades 1 through 8 explored painting, sewing, and theater arts through singing and drumming under the guidance of professional Teaching Artists who brought fresh energy and a vibrant cultural spark to each classroom.
Held Monday through Thursday, the program offered far more than just summer fun — it created a space where young artists could thrive. The unique approach of each Teaching Artists encouraged students to explore their individual voices, collaborate with peers, and grow in confidence. According to instructor surveys, students showed meaningful growth in creative expression, problem-solving, and teamwork — all while having a great time.
One parent shared her surprise and delight that both her 9- and 12-yearold children discovered a deep love for embroidery, calling it “their favorite class of all.”
Thefinalshowcasedrew a crowd of proud families, educators, and community supporters, all gathered to celebrate the students’ achievements. Tables were lined with vivid artwork, and the stage came alive with singing and drumming performances that reflected the students’ hard work and growing self-assurance.
Designed to be accessible to all area youth, the program played a key role in preventing summer learning loss by offering rich, structured, and inspiring experiences. In doing so, it helped ensure that every child — regardless of background — had the chance to grow, express, and shine.
The Eufaula Summer Arts program was made possible through the Oklahoma Arts Council, National Endowment for the Arts and Eufaula Area Arts Council, Inc., with strong local community partnerships, including Eufaula Elementary, the Eufaula Area Chamber of Commerce, and a dedicated team of volunteers.
Together, they helped cultivate a space where creativity is not only encouraged but celebrated.
As this year’s program closed, one thing was clear: the arts are alive and thriving in Eufaula, and our young artists are just getting started.
