It was a tough day for the Checotah Wildcats (0-1) baseball team on Friday. Friday marked the start of the baseball season for the Wildcats who hosted the Jay Bulldogs. Jay took advantage of a struggling Wildcat team to win 11-4. Friday was also the first game for new Checotah head coach Levi Walker.
Checotah pitcher Dalton Carter allowed four hits and gave up ten runs, six of them earned through 3 ⅓ innings as he took the loss for Checotah. Mason Rainbolt did a great job coming out of the bullpen as he threw three innings and gave up a pair of hits, three walks and seven strikeouts.
Senior Jacob Jones went 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI, Bryce Marshall had a double for his one hit and Charles Collins had a huge game for the Wildcats. Collins was walked twice and showed off his speed as he stole two bases and scored three times for the Wildcats.
“I’m very proud of the effort at the plate today. We saw a lot of things that need to be addressed but overall I thought we did a pretty good job with this being our first game,” Checotah head coach Levi Walker said.
