The Checotah Wrestling program participated in the 2024 Maverick Conference Wrestling Tournament in Poteau. The Mat Cats had a successful day with multiple wrestlers winning their matches or placing high.
Colt Collett dominated pinning his opponent in .50 seconds in the championship match to win 1st place. Reign Westbrook placed 6th at 215 pounds and Bobcat Phillips placed 3rd at 106 pounds, Keith McGuire 2nd place at 132 pounds, Mitchell Tanner 3rd place at 144 pounds and Jaydon Casey 2nd place at 157 pounds.
“Team wrestled really well. We had 3 kids Ben Payne, Cy Hunt, and Reign Westbrook were a match away from placing. We are winding down the season and getting ready for the postseason. You want to see your team progress, get better, and wrestle harder than opposition and the team is doing that,” Checotah head coach Brent Oleson said.
The Junior High had three placers at conference 126 Annabelle Mowdy 1st.
Annabelle was also voted most outstanding girls wrestler of the conference tournament.
