The Checotah City Council held a special council meeting on Dec. 18 and discussed the future of Checotah’s 911, the emergency program that recently merged with Eufaula 911.
Staffing and financial issues prompted the Eufaula agency to merge with Checotah.
At the recent special council meeting it was decided that the 911 office, which now shares some space with the Checotah Police Department, would be in a standalone facility. A search is underway for a suitable location.
A motion was made by Councilman Ronnie Brinsfield and seconded by Councilman Joey Marion to move forward with appointing a 911 coordinator and identifying the coordinator’s duties.
In other business, a motion was made by Councilman Joey Marion and seconded by Councilman Tony Fields on removing Curt Working from the Checotah Industrial Development Authority (CIDA) board and making him an emeritus member.
The board voted to appoint Kim Emerson as the new CIDA member, who will serve a four-year term.
