Hilltop Church of Christ
In the world of reason is found the following truism. Any two things that are equal to the same results are equal one to the other. As applicable to the spiritual realm would not be same hold true? Solomon tells us that, as is commonly stated, history repeats itself. False religion copies the pattern of the problems of narcotics. Two important facets, the flesh craves that which “feels good” and the acceptance of that state brings addition.
Anyone so bold as to attempt to aid the addict., most often becomes the enemy. As the statement of the Apostle in Gal; 4:15 “Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?
History is in the repetitive mode today as reminiscent of Isaiah’s time; Isa. 30:10 Which say to the seers, see not; and to the prophets prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits; Echoing the desire for the effects of drugs, the spiritual addict wants a “feel good” message. But, the truth of inspiration is that the message has, most of all, a warning not an “I’m okay, you’re okay message. The purpose of presenting the word is much different in the Apostle’s description; 2 Tim. 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. 2Tim. 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears: “Enduring” the uncorrupt doctrine is to literally compare it to one’s self. The presentation of sound doctrine is with reproof, rebuke and exhortation, the charge to each is that of 2 Cor; 13:5, examine yourself in comparison with that which God demands.
The result of truth is the same for the addict of false doctrine and the addict of narcotics. Denial of condition until too late to escape the consequences. Gal. 6:8. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
