I’m afraid that the landscape of professional sports is changing and not in a positive manner. Recently, Houston Texans’ quarterback Deshaun Watson had his feelings hurt and demanded a trade when the organization did not take the input Watson offered on hiring a new general manager and why would they?

Watson is a professional athlete that plays quarterback for the Houston Texans. He isn’t the CEO or owner of the NFL franchise. The only time I could see an organization even take into consideration the input of an athlete when hiring management is if that athlete was a multiple Super Bowl champion with that organization.
Watson did not show any discontent when he recently signed a four-year, $156,000,000 contract including a $27,000,000 signing bonus, with $110,717,123 guaranteed and an average annual salary of $39,000,000.
Meanwhile the Texans made a great hire for General Manager with former New England executive Nick Caserio.
Professional athletes are paid handsomely to play a particular sport and in this case Watson is paid millions to play quarterback.
Fortunately, the Houston Texans have made several statements that they are not trading Watson and that he will remain a Texan unlike the NBA did. The National Basketball Association in the last two years saw team management cave in to trading stars like Anthony Davis and James Harden after the players demanded being traded.
If management at the highest level holds firm to the contracts and hires that they make, the NFL will be fine. If not, it will turn into college football with an ever turning transfer portal and the NFL that we knew will be no more.
