Wildcats explode in third to run past Heavener
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR

The Checotah Wildcats (6-1) broke the game wide open with a massive third inning, scoring nine runs on their way to an impressive 11-2 victory over Heavener on Tuesday.

After Heavener grabbed an early lead, the Wildcats quickly answered when Traegan Duvall tied the game in the second inning with an RBI single. From there, Checotah’s offense caught fire.

In the third inning surge, Taten Ferguson, Mason Rainbolt, Cale Thompson, Eli Patterson and Camden Ferguson all delivered key hits as the Wildcats poured on the runs and seized control of the game.

On the mound, Eli Patterson was dominant, striking out eight and allowing just one run over five innings to earn the win. Checotah’s aggressive base running also kept pressure on Heavener, with the Wildcats swiping 11 bases in the contest.

Checotah finished with nine hits, with Ferguson and Rainbolt each collecting two hits while several Wildcats drove in multiple runs in a strong all-around team performance.

The win showcased the Wildcats’ speed, depth and explosive offense as they continue building momentum this season.

Rainbolt dominates as Wildcats’ shutout Wolves in double-header

The Checotah Wildcats wasted no time taking control Tuesday, exploding early and cruising to a 10-0 victory over the Heavener Wolves behind a dominant outing from pitcher Mason Rainbolt.

Rainbolt was nearly untouchable on the mound, striking out 12 batters while allowing just one hit and no runs over four innings. The Wildcats’ ace kept Heavener hitters guessing all game, issuing only one walk in a commanding performance.

Checotah’s offense gave Rainbolt plenty of support right away. The Wildcats erupted for seven runs in the first inning to break the game open. Mason Rainbolt and Cale Thompson each drew bases-loaded walks to bring in runs, while a pair of Heavener errors allowed five more Wildcats to cross the plate.

Checotah continued to pressure the defense and stayed aggressive on the bases throughout the game. The Wildcats swiped eight bases, with Traegan Duvall leading the charge with two steals.

Kross Stauffer, Camden Ferguson and Taten Ferguson each recorded a hit for Checotah, while Taten Ferguson and Ace Wilhite drove in runs. The Wildcats also showed patience at the plate, drawing six walks.
