Callison leads Ironheads back to State Tournament
By Rodney Haltom Sports Editor 918-689-2191 ijsports@cookson.news

The road to the state tournament is never easy, but under the steady leadership of new head coach Grant Callison, the Eufaula Ironheads once again proved that discipline, teamwork and belief can carry a program to the biggest stage in Oklahoma high school basketball.

For Callison, success has never been about a single season. It has been about building a culture.

Since taking the reins of the Ironheads’ program, Callison has emphasized hard work, accountability and pride in wearing the maroon and white. That foundation paid off this season as the Ironheads battled through a competitive schedule, grew stronger with each game and ultimately earned their place in the state tournament and acquired a 28-4 record along the way.

Players and fans alike know that Callison’s impact goes far beyond wins and losses.

He is known for demanding effort in practice, teaching the fundamentals of the game and pushing his players to compete at their highest level. At the same time, he has built a program centered on character — reminding his athletes that representing Eufaula means representing the entire community.

That philosophy has created a team that plays with intensity, resilience and unity.

Throughout the season, the Ironheads showed the traits that have become trademarks of a Callison-coached team — tough defense, disciplined offense and the ability to stay composed in pressure moments. Those qualities helped Eufaula overcome adversity and earn the opportunity to compete among the best teams in the state.

Reaching the state tournament is an accomplishment that reflects months of preparation, long practices and the belief that success is built day by day.

For the players, it is a moment they will remember for the rest of their lives. For the community, it is a source of pride as fans rally behind the Ironheads.

And for Coach Callison, it represents something even bigger.

It is another chapter in a program built on dedication, leadership and the belief that when a team commits to something greater than themselves, special things can happen. As an alum of Eufaula, it does my heart good to see someone of Callison’s character take over the program. It is again something that can be respected. You can see it on his players’ faces as they have become a fantastic unselfish team that depends on one another and formed a unifying brotherhood.

As the Ironheads take the court on the state stage, they carry with them the support of Eufaula and the steady leadership of a coach who has helped shape not only a winning team, but a program the entire town can be proud of.

1-2-3 break.
