After losing cornerbacks coach Jay Valai to the Buffalo Bills and running backs coach DeMarco Murray to the Kansas City Chiefs, head coach Brent Venables moved quickly — and decisively.
The Sooners have finalized the hires of veteran assistants LaMar Morgan and Deland McCullough, adding experience, energy and NFL pedigree to the staff.
Morgan, 40, takes over the cornerbacks room with 14 years of coaching experience. A former standout at Louisiana Lafayette, he’s built a strong résumé with stops at Vanderbilt, Western Carolina, Louisiana Monroe and Houston before serving as defensive coordinator at his alma mater. Most recently, he spent two seasons at Michigan, sharpening his reputation as a developer of defensive backs.
McCullough brings even more big-league experience. The longtime running backs coach began his career at Miami (Ohio) before building successful stops at Indiana, USC and Notre Dame. He also spent three seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs and most recently coached with the Las Vegas Raiders, giving Oklahoma’s offense immediate NFL credibility.
Venables praised both hires as leaders and proven recruiters, emphasizing their ability to develop talent and elevate the culture inside the building.
Now, with fresh energy and championship- level experience, Oklahoma’s staff looks reloaded — not rebuilding.
