Virgil G. ‘Bub’ Osten

September 30, 1942 – Monday, February 23, 2026

Virgil G. “Bub” Osten, born September 30, 1942, in Stillwater, Oklahoma, went to meet his Lord and Savior on Monday, February 23, 2026.

Bub married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Langley, in 1961. They spent over ten years together and welcomed two children, John and Shelly. He was preceded in death by his father Virgil G. Osten, mother Lela M. Odom, sister Alberta W. Goodwin, and numerous aunts and uncles whom he loved dearly.

He is survived by his wife Maxine Osten; brother Alvin Ray Osten; son John Osten and wife Vivian of Skiatook, Oklahoma; daughter Shelly Colgan and husband Robert of Wenonah, New Jersey; grandchildren Justin, Farron, and Nolan Osten, Lauren and Angelo Marinelli; several great-grandchildren; nephews James Adams III, Jeremy Osten and wife Shelly, Corey Osten, Danny Osten and wife Renee; nieces Meri Osten, Angela Mills and husband Kerry, and their son Bryan and wife Jennifer; stepdaughter Maria Denise Howell; and stepson Joe Howell of Bernice, Louisiana.

Bub met Maxine in Ruidoso, New Mexico and they later married in Odessa, Texas, in June 1978. Together they traveled across the country, sightseeing and taking train excursions whenever possible. They visited every state but one, photographing train depots and collecting memories along the way. Bub especially cherished their train vacation in Alaska and his most memorable journey— his trip to Israel. Throughout his life, Bub worked in both the horse and carpet industries. He helped manage Dale Robertson’s Haymaker Farms in Yukon, Oklahoma, before moving to Eufaula in 1982, where he founded Bub’s Carpet Service, working in carpet and flooring until December 2001.

Bub was a devoted member of North Fork Baptist Church beginning in 1984. He served through Baptist Disaster Relief, Baptist Global Response, and participated in several international mission efforts. He loved sharing his testimony and his deep love for God. Bub will be truly missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m.- 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at Hunn, Black & Merritt Funeral Home in Eufaula.

Funeral services for Bub will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at North Fork Baptist Church, with Pastor Bruce Sanders and Pastor Eric Fletcher officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Eufaula, Oklahoma. Arrangements are entrusted to Hunn, Black & Merritt Funeral Home, 401 N. Main St., Eufaula, Oklahoma 74432.
