Checotah makes a statement with a 56-38 victory over Spiro
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR,

The Checotah Wildcats earned a huge 56-38 victory over the Spiro Bulldogs Monday night. It was a special evening as Checotah celebrated 2025-26 Basketball Senior Night prior to the tip off. The game started off slow but ended in dominant fashion for the Wildcats. Checotah led 6-5 at the end of the first period but came out the second period playing tough, physical basketball.

Senior Hudson Pollard was effective defensively by forcing turnovers and forcing the Bulldogs to take bad shots. Point guard Koyah Littleman scored 16 points and was also a factor on defense as Checotah led 25-18 at the halftime break.

Landynn Thomason came out in the third period, scoring three times in transition. Checotah’s ball control and assists were remarkable. Rowan Chapman and Cole Rolland dominated the paint as the Bulldogs struggled to score under the basket. Littleman and Chapman were the top scorers, combining for 33 points.

Wes Brown, Landynn Thomason and Hudson Pollard guarded well against Sir Thomas and Travis Moody of Spiro. Pollard has really blossomed into a great defensive player. His overall athleticism is outstanding, and he has great court vision. He recently was accepted to the U.S. Naval Academy.

Rowan Chapman, Littleman along with Baylor Carter outscored Spiro 17-9 in the fourth period to seal a 56-38 win.

Rowan Chapman led Checotah in scoring with 17 points, Littleman 16 points, Rolland and Landynn each scored six points and Brown added five points.

“We never gave up. These guys played hard all night and I’m so proud of them. It was a special win for these seniors and I couldn’t be proud of them,” Checotah head coach Malcolm Warrior said.

Westville’s fast start doomed Checotah 78-59 The Westville’s fast start was key to their 78-59-district win Friday night at Westville. Westville outscored the Wildcats 26-10 in the first period as Nemo Harrington made three three-point baskets while teammate Buck Triplet scored a long threepointer and LaLa Miller scored eight of his season high 29 points.

Rowan Chapman kept Checotah in the game, scoring eight of his 28 points. The Wildcats improved in the second period as Chapman, Cole Rolland and Hudson Pollard combined to score 19 points, going into the halftime break 36-29. The duo of Chapman and Rolland was the key for the Wildcats. Pollard gave the fans something to cheer about when he hit a three-pointer in the second period and played outstanding defense.

Checotah struggled at the point guard position as Koyah Littleman scored only two points and Wes Brown was held to zero points. Westville’s combo of Miller and Harington was lethal: Miller scored 29 points and Harrington added 25 points. Westville had seven players score while Checotah only had five players score.

Chapman and Rolland were tough and physical down low for the Wildcats, combining for 48 points and Pollard added seven points in the loss.

“We had a couple of guys not ready from the opening jump which put us in a hole, but we fought and played hard the whole game. We play Friday and only need to win two games to get to Area. “We’ll play Keys or Victory Christian on Friday, and then we’ll play Morris or Stigler if we win that game,” Checotah head coach Malcolm Warrior said.
