How can I truly know that I am a Christian?

Do you know that you know Jesus? Some have said that we should never doubt, but doubts and overcoming them are part of being a Christ- followers. Everyone doubts at some time. How we approach and overcome out doubts are vital to a real, growing faith in Jesus. Paul exhorts us to do just that in 2 Corinthians 13:5, “Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test?” The Christian faith teaches us to look within and truly know who we are and what we believe.

The book of 1st John is a guidebook that helps us understand if we are living like Jesus.

Here is a list of something to help us examine ourselves…

1. Do you enjoy having fellowship with Christ and His Church? (1 John 1:3) 2. Would people say you walk in the light, or walk in the darkness? (1 John 1:6-7) 3. Do you admit and confess your sin? (1 John 1:8) 4. Are you obedient to God’s Word? (1 John 2:35) 5. Does your life indicate you love God rather than the world? (1 John 2:15) 6. Is your life characterized by “doing what is right”? (1 John 2:29) 7. Do you seek to maintain a pure life? (1 John 3:3) 8. Do you see a decreasing pattern of sin in your life? (1 John 3:5-6) [Note: this refers to not continuing in sin as a way of life, not a total absence of sin.] 9. Do you demonstrate love for other Christians? (1 John 3:14) 11. Do you maintain a clear conscience? (1 John 3:21) 10. Do you “walk the walk,” versus just “talking the talk”? (1 John 3:18-19) Jesus calls us to live new lives. We are changed because of His grace and over time we grow farther from our old way of life and closer to Him. It is the mission of First Baptist Church to live this kind of love toward each other and our community. We just want to see our community transformed by the amazing love of Jesus. We want to help you in your faith to know Jesus and His grace without a doubt!
