Bumgarner leads Lady Ironheads to victory
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR,

The Eufaula Lady Ironheads earned a huge 38-31 on the road victory over the Preston Lady Pirates.

Eufaula senior Johna Bumgarner scored 11 of her 17 total points in the fourth period to rally to victory. Eufaula started off playing great inside the paint basketball with Olivia Hamby and Ariel Greenlee. Both players made their dominance felt early as Preston failed to match up

against the duo. Eufaula outscored Preston 9-3 in the first period. But K Martin was tough to guard as she used her size and athleticism to score from the outside as the Lady Pirates made a push in the second period to go into the halftime break trailing 19-15.

Eufaula struggled protecting the basketball as the Lady Pirates forced numerous turnovers to take a 22-21 lead in the third period. Hamby and Kristee Thompson had a big game grabbing rebounds and battling in the paint. Hannah Needham tied the game at 25-25 with 1:05 in the third period but Preston would end the period with a score to go into the final period leading 27-25.

The Final period was all Bumgarner as she scored Eufaula first nine points in the opening minutes of the fourth period. Preston immediately called a timeout. On the next possession Hamby forced a turnover and made a pass to Greenlee for a score to extend the score 36-29. The Lady Pirates would add another score by Martin but with 1:14 remaining on the clock Bumgarner would grab a rebound and score in the paint, 38-31.

The remaining moments were plagued by turnovers and missed shots.

Bumgarner led Eufaula with 17 points, Hamby and Greenlee each finished with eight points and Lauren Gray added three points.

Silo Rebels defeat the Eufaula Lady Ironheads 49-41 Friday night at Silo (No stats available.)
