Checotah falls to Eufaula 65-51 in second round action
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR,

The Checotah Wildcats played a tough game against archrival Eufaula Ironheads but came up short 65-51 in the second round of the Checotah Crossroads Classic on Wednesday.

Eufaula jumped out to a fast start leading 7-0 before Cole Rolland put Checotah on the scoreboard. Wes Brown added a three-pointer followed by Gabe Callison’s three-pointer.

Rolland added another bucket with tough play in the paint and Rowan Chapman scored right before the horn to make it a 12-9 game.

Both teams traded shot for shot in the second period and the game was tied 14-14 with 5:06 on the clock.

Chapman gave Checotah their first lead of the game but it was short lived as R’Reon Morrow hit a jumper and Jentry James made a steal and a great pass to Ty Sparks for the score. Keaton Parish then grabbed a rebound and an assist to James for the score followed by a steal and score from Parish to end the half with a 22-18 lead.

Eufaula scored 21 points in the third period and led 4327 to start the final period. However, Levi Chapman gave Checotah a huge spark as he hit two three-point baskets followed by a Landyn Thomason score and a three-point play by Wes Brown to cut the lead 45-38.

Checotah battled to cover Keaton Parish, Logan Plant and Jentry James who gave Eufaula a 56-43 lead. Levi Chapman was tough and gave great effort on both ends of the court. Chapman hit another three-pointer to make it 60-49 with 2:06 remaining in regulation.

Ty Sparks dashed through the defense and scored but Wes Brown followed his shot for a score of his own to make it 62-51. Parish and Lane would finish the scoring to seal the 65-51 victory.

Levi Chapman and Rowan Chapman each scored 12 points, Cole Rolland 11 and Wes Brown added eight points for Checotah.

R’Reon Morrow and Jentry James finished with 16 points each, Keaton Parish nine points and Gabe Callison had eight points for Eufaula.
