Quinton Lady Savages battle at Tournament of Champions
By JOHN BLOCK COURTESY,

The Class A #7 Quinton Lady Savages competed in the 60th Annual Tulsa Public Schools Tournament of Champions Dec. 29-31. It was the second consecutive year that Quinton has participated in the tournament.

Quinton wrapped up the tournament against Locust Grove in the seventh place game on Dec. 31 which ended in a 6040 Quinton loss.

The Lady Savages fell 67-33 to Union in the first round on Dec. 29 and suffered a 53-43 loss to Tahlequah Sequoyah in the second round on Dec. 30.

Quinton senior point guard Aliviah Daniels was named to the TOC All-Tournament second team. She averaged 16 points at the tournament and had 1.7 rebounds per game. Daniels made 27 of 33 free throws at the tournament.

Early in the first quarter, Quinton was able to keep pace with Union but couldn’t buy a bucket after getting the score to 8-6, Union went on a 21-0 run. At halftime, Union led 29-11. A 6733 loss sent Quinton into the consolation bracket. Two players scored in double figures against Union with Aliviah Daniels scoring 13 and Mileigh Needham with 10. Lillee Powell led the team in steals with 2.

The Tahlequah Sequoyah Lady Indians offense started off hot against the Lady Savages on Dec. 30 which forced Head Coach Clay Conley to call an early timeout with his team down 12-2. Madi Fulton then made an and-one jumper to trim the lead down to 7. At the end of 1, the Lady Indians led 18-7 but Quinton settled in and got within four at halftime, 26-22.

Daniels cut the lead down to 2 after making two free throws early in the third but the Lady Indians then responded with a 8-0 run to take a 34-24 advantage. But the Lady Savages refused to go down without a fight, after an and-one by Daniels and a threepoint make by Shaylee Black, Quinton had it back to 5.

In the fourth quarter, the Lady Indians were able to handle the ball which limited possessions for Quinton and Tahlequah Sequoyah took a 53-43 win.

Daniels led the team in scoring with 17 which included going 12 for 13 from the free throw line. Black and Katie Henderson each had 7 for the Lady Savages with Henderson having 3 steals. Needham and Powell each had 6 rebounds.

After a tie game in each of the first two quarters in the seventh place game, the Locust Grove Lady Pirates used a big third quarter to extend the lead to 44-31. Daniels shot 18 free throws in the game where she made 14 which kept the Lady Savages in the game. Black made three three-pointers and had 6 rebounds in the 60-40 loss.
