Dallas Allen Steele, 38, Checotah, has pled guilty to robbery with a weapon and possession of a firearm after a former felony conviction.
On Dec. 10, Associate District Judge Brendon Bridges sentenced Steele to 20 years in prison.
In March, Steele was charged with the robbery of a Dollar General Store on Nowata Road west of Checotah in McIntosh County.
Law enforcement arrived shortly after the robbery and pursued Steel west on I-40.
The high-speed chase ended near Shawnee near Oklahoma City when the OHP performed a PIT (Precision Immobilization Technique) maneuver, causing the suspect’s vehicle to spin out of control and strike a light pole that fell onto the OHP cruiser.
Steele, who was slightly injured in the wreck, was treated at an area hospital and then jailed at the Pottawattamie County jail in Shawnee, according to McIntosh County Chief Deputy Jared West.
Involved in the pursuit were West, Deputy Matt Youngblood, District Attorney Investigator Kevin Branscum and units of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
West said Steele was taken from the wrecked vehicle and placed into an OHP car.
“He was still combative, and he kicked out the windshield of the trooper’s car,” he said.
A large amount of meth, a gun and all the money taken during the robbery were recovered, according to West.
