Roland Rangers cage Checotah Wildcats 75-51
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR

The Roland Rangers handed the Checotah Wildcats a 75-51 loss Friday night at the Checotah Event Center in a hard fought game. The loss drops Checotah to 0-2 on the season. Roland took advantage of their on-the-spot perimeter shooting and forcing turnovers as they took a 26-14 lead to end the first period.

The Wildcats started the second period with two turnovers prior to Traegan Duvall making a steal and score. Roland’s Raidyn Knight scored two three-point baskets and then the visitor’s crowd erupted when Mason Kemp sprinted up court and rejected a shot by Wes Brown of Checotah.

The Wildcats battled back as Rowan Chapman scored a three-point shot to make it 39-21. Cole Rolland then made a steal and score to cut the lead 39-23 but the Rangers’ defense was crucial and physical in the win as they forced more turnovers to take a 47-23 lead into the halftime break.

Koyah Littleman came out in the third period and scored followed by a Cole Rolland three-pointer followed by two more scores to make it a 50-31 game with 5:28 remaining in the third period.

Then Duvall hit a three-pointer (50-34) but Checotah continued to turn the ball over and Rolland ended the period with a 64-36 lead.

The fourth period saw some great effort by multiple Checotah players such as Hudson Pollard, Levi Chapman, Baylor Carter and Cooper Cutbirth and Thomason as the Wildcats outscored Roland 15-11 but it was not enough as the Rangers held on to win 75-51.

Treagan Duvall and Cole Rolland each had 10 points to lead Checotah. Rowan Chapman and Landynn Thomason each had 7 points and Koyah Littleman finished with six points.

Raidyn Knight led all scorers with 21 points, Damonte Owens 20 points and Landan Fowler finished with 15 points for the Rangers.

Lady Wildcats fall to Roland

The Checotah Lady Wildcats (0-2) fell to the Lady Rangers 45-34 on Friday night. Checotah committed 23 turnovers in the contest. Roland outscored Checotah 9-4 in the first period and held the Lady Wildcats to three points in the second period while scoring 15 points to take a 24-7 lead.

Roland took a 39-16 lead to start the fourth period and put in their reserve players. Carly Dismukes scored a three-point basket followed by Shyanne Madewell’s two-point play to make it a 39-21 game.

Roland continued to force turnovers and score in transition Kalleigh York grabbed the next rebound and made a great pass to Nakia Carr who scored a threepoint basket. Checotah then forced a turnover and Dismukes scored again to make it 41-26. Logan Dowdy then was fouled hard and made one of her free throws but was negated due to Madwell entering the paint too soon. With 2:08 remaining in the game Checotah head coach Wes Cloud put in his reserves and received great effort from Teagan Madwell, Addie Britt, Daisy Prince, Kailynn Thrall and Alanah Madding.
