Eufaula steamrolls Beggs 82-51 in season opener
By Rodney Haltom sports EDITOR

In an offensive display that hasn’t been seen since Bradley Campbell was head coach at Eufaula, the Ironheads (1-0) rolled over Beggs 82-51 on senior night.

Newly hired Eufaula head coach Grant Callison had his team well prepared as they dominated the Beggs Golden Demons on both ends of the court.

It was a game that started fast and physical as the Ironheads led 15-14 at the end of the first period. That’s all it took for Callison to figure out a game plan that shut down the Demons. R’Reon Marrow was on fire in the second period, scoring 10 of his 19 points. It was a perfect execution with Keaton Parish, Marrow and Doltyn Lane scoring at will in the paint. Defensively, it was textbook. Ty Sparks, Jentry James and Lane frustrated Beggs with their speed and physicality. They shut down the Beggs offense and forced them to take high percentage shots while Parish and Logan Plant battled for rebounds.

“I was very pleased with our kids. We played hard and physically. We have a lot of things to get better at but for our first game I was very pleased. It was a great homecoming for me,” Eufaula head coach Grant Callison said.

Eufaula led 60-38 to start the final period and out scored Beggs 22-13 in the final period.

Marrow led Eufaula with 19 points, Parish 17 points, James 15 points, Lane nine points and Sparks and Lanham four points each.

Lady Ironheads top Beggs 60-42

The Eufaula Lady Ironheads (1-0) took control of the game early and scored 15 points in each period to win their season opener 60-42. Sophomore Olivia Hamby had a great game on both ends of the court but it was a total team win with Hannah Needham, Lauren Gray, Johna Bumgarner, Ayana Siers, Kristee Thompson, Ariel Greenlee and crew.

The Lady Ironheads swarmed Beggs defensively and fought for every rebound they grabbed. Eufaula’s forwards proved to be too much for the Lady Demons to handle.

Bumgarner, Greenlee and Hamby were dominant in the paint while Gray, Needham and Siers and Briley Gragg forced turnovers.

Bumgarner finished with 15 points, Gray six points, Hamby 10 points, Needham four points and Greenlee seven points.

“I’m proud that we never gave up and forced turnovers. Really proud of how we came out tonight and played with some physicality. It was a good win,” Eufaula coach Jason Radomski.

Marrow hangs 25 points on Morris Eufaula guard R’Reon Marrow scored 25-points in the Ironheads’ 82-44 win over the Morris Eagles. The Ironheads (2-0) outscored Morris 22-10 to open up the game. Eufaula was hot from the perimeter as they scored a combined six three-point buckets from Jentry James and Marrow. It was a defensive show in the second half by Doltyn Lane and Ty Sparks as they overwhelmed the Eagles forcing turnovers and making great passes in assists.

“We didn’t come out very strong defensively. The first half we couldn’t keep them off the free throw line. I felt like we shot it well all night and the second half we came out with a lot more focus defensively. I was proud of our effort in the second half. We had three guys in double figures with R’Reon with 25, Jentry with 20, Keaton with 10. I felt like Ty sparks hasn’t shown up in the scorebook yet but he will. Ty and Dalton lane are great for us energy wise and defensively. They affect so many plays with just doing the dirty work. Logan Plant is getting back in shape and I think he’ll keep getting better every game out,” Eufaula coach Grant Callison said.

The Ironheads led 3627 at the halftime break but came out in the third period and outscored Morris 28-8.

Bumgarner scored five three-pointers in Eufaula win Eufaula senior Johna Bumgarner scored five three-point shots to help lead Eufaula to a 62-39 win over the Morris Lady Eagles. It was tough for Eufaula in the opening period as they gave up 16 points with Shelby Washington and Tayler Phillips of Morris getting the upper hand as they outscored Eufaula 16-8. However, the Lady Ironheads came roaring back as they scored 20 points on Morris. Ariel Greenlee and Olivia Hamby began to make their presence felt in the paint and Briley Gragg hitting a three-pointer to take a 28-21 lead into halftime. The second half was all Eufaula, as Bumgarner got hot at the perimeter finishing with 18 points. Hamby had 13 points, Greenlee 10 and Gragg eight points.
