Three students of Selina Jayne-Dorman will present a staged reading relating three generations of women’s homefront dilemmas when Jack—a man they all love—is on an overseas peacekeeping mission.
Niley Angell will portray Karen, Jack’s wife; Akahai McDonald will be Lillian, his mother, and Kole Williams will be his daughter, Mary. Through their letters, the audience will become aware of the burdens his absence brings the three of them and will view each character’s emotional complications.
That sounds like a big job for three high school students, but not for ones who’ve had the good fortune to be coached by Jayne-Dorman, a professional actress now a part-time Eufaula High School speech and drama instructor. Jayne-Dorman is well known in Eufaula, not just for her numerous theatrical credits, but for her stint as the city’s mayor.
Parents are invited to view this reading and see how being on stage is beneficial for young people—a true character- builder. The free meeting will be at the Eufaula Senior Center, 121 High Street—the location where library events will be held until the floor repair of the Follansbee Room is completed.
The Friends have offered free cultural programs on the third Friday of every month in 2025. The December 19 program will feature retired history teacher and travel enthusiast Roger Thompson, who will present a slide show, “How Christmas Evolved.”
Bookings are being made now for the Friends’ 2026 calendar. If you have someone you’d like to recommend as a speaker or any arts and creativity program you’d like to see, please contact Lenore Bechtel, Friends’ Vice President and program coordinator, at lenorebechtel33@gmail.com.
