Dear Editor, City Council Members, & City Manager of Eufaula, I am writing to express my disappointment that a letter written by one of my people, Don Herrold, to the Eufaula City Council body and the City Manager Jacob Foos on August 24, 2025 requesting to be a part of the Advisory Committee was completely ignored (Letter Attached).

After returning from an out-of-town excursion, I was preparing to write my own letter of recommendation in support of Don Herrold being a part of your planning committee only to open the Eufaula Indian Journal that day and see that you have already chosen your Advisory Committee members.

I would have expected at least an obligatory response, even if the body did not choose Mr. Herrold to participate in the Advisory Committee – to completely ignore one of your constituents’ communications is disheartening, to say the least. I’m also not necessarily on board with at least one of your choices, but they were not mine to make.

However, as the McIntosh County GOP Chairman as well as the OKGOP Congressional District 2 Chairman, I would have expected that you might reach out to both of the county political party groups in an effort to help you determine who might be best put into those positions as well as other opportunities around the county. I cannot speak for the Democratic County Chairman, but I know as the Republican County Chairman, I have never been asked my opinion.

Again, this behavior is very discouraging as we would like to be part and parcel of our local governments in an effort to add to the conversation. Regardless, McIntosh County GOP will continue to serve McIntosh County residents and I hope that perhaps someday you will see our true value as partners in the community.
