The woman who was found dead near Council Hill on Oct. 28 has been identified as Traci Byrd, 53, of Hugo, according to the McIntosh County District Attorney’s office.
The suspect has been identified as Armando Mustafa Rojas Caceras, 47, also of Hugo.
He was arrested in a barn on private property near the scene.
The investigation is still ongoing, and charges are pending.
The official cause and manner of death will be determined by the medical exam-iner, according to the District Attorney.
Byrd was found in the woods with multiple injuries near Highways 266 and 72.
Sheriff Kevin Ledbetter said there were no gunshot wounds.
The discovery was made on Oct. 28 at about 1 p.m. after the Sheriff ’s Office received a call about an abandoned car on the side of the road.
Deputies made a welfare check and Byrd’s body was found.
They later found Caceras hiding in the barn, on property owned by someone else.
