The Eufaula City Council on Monday appointed a ninemember Advisory Committee to held the Council develop its comprehensive plan for Eufaula’s future.
The committee consists of two Council Members, two members of the Planning and Zoning Board and five members from the public at large.
Mayor James Hickman and Ward 3 Council Member Evelyn Gulley and Planning and Zoning Board Vice Chairman Brandon Linstead and member Serina Kleveter volunteered.
From the general public, the Council chose Karen Weldin, John Wilkes, Michael Evans, Zach McQuay and Zach Armendariz.
“The city’s excited to get started on the Comprehensive Plan, and we’re excited to see where this is going to lead the city,” Hickman said.
Dilapidate building
After listening to a long list of complaints by neighbors and police, the Eufaula City Council voted Monday that a dilapidated rental property at 213 Indian Avenue owned by Martha Ogle must be demolished.
The council gave the owner the option of taking down the structure or the city will do it and bill her for the costs, estimated to be between $10,000 and $15,000.
No camping
The Council put a moratorium on camping in city parks and the cove area, which has had a 10-day limit on camping at these locations.
According to information from the City, in recent years camping around the cove has caused challenges and safety concerns due in part to the lack of amenities including nearby restrooms and shower facilities.
This item provides a way to pause camping around the cove while the City goes through the comprehensive planning process and determines the long range vision for Lakeshore Drive.
Police Cars
In other business, the Council approved the Police Department’s request to purchase two new vehicles from Wampler Freedom Ford for a total of $92,304.
“We have been very fortunate to upgrade our fleet, with the exception of two vehicles. The reason for updating them, one is the safety of officers and citizens, but also the maintenance costs,” said Police Chief David Bryning.
