Man guilty of beating wife with hammer
A 56-year-old Checotah man has been found guilty of attempting to beat his wife to death with a hammer as she slept.
Investigators said Shawn David Wright was angry about his wife forgetting to pick up a pack of cigarettes for him.
Wright was sentenced to 30 years in prison for assault and battery by means or force likely to produce death following his trial on Thursday, Oct. 16.
Deputy Sheriff Christian Degraffenreid arrested Wright on Jan. 29 after receiving a domestic violence call.
According to the probable cause report, Wright struck his wife Marilyn Wright, 52, three times in the head with a hammer.
