OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma Secretary of State has assigned Wednesday, October 29, 2025, as the official start date for the Vote Yes 836 campaign to begin collecting signatures to place State Question 836 on the ballot.

State Question 836 would create a single, open primary election in which all candidates appear on the same ballot, with their party registration listed. The top two finishers, regardless of party, would advance to the general election. The reform would ensure every voter—Republican, Democrat, Libertarian or independent—has an equal voice in choosing who represents them.

“The effort to bring open primaries to Oklahoma has been building momentum for months,” said Dr. Kenneth Setter, a retired Tulsa pediatrician who is one of three Oklahomans whose name is on the original petition filed with the Secretary of State. “We have hundreds of volunteers and signature gatherers across Oklahoma who are ready to get to work. The public response has been overwhelmingly positive, and we’re excited to get out to every corner of the state and make sure every voter has a chance to sign.”

The campaign will have until January 26, 2026 (90 days) to collect over 172,993 valid signatures to qualify for the ballot.
