What must you do to be saved? The Bible’s answer!

If you’ve ever wondered what the Bible really says about being saved, you’re not alone. The question goes all the way back to the first century when the Philippian jailer cried out to Paul and Silas, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” (Acts 16:30) Their answer was simple: “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved.” (Acts 16:31) But the Bible doesn’t stop there. It gives us a beautiful, step-bystep path for coming to Christ—not a checklist, but a relationship roadmap.

First, hear the gospel. Jesus said, “Whoever hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life.” (John 5:24) Faith begins by listening—not scrolling, not guessing, but truly hearing the good news that Jesus died and rose again for you.

Then, believe in Christ. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16) Belief is more than nodding in agreement—it’s trusting Jesus enough to hand Him the keys to your life.

Next comes the step most of us wrestle with: repentance. Jesus didn’t sugarcoat it. “Unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.” (Luke 13:5) Repentance isn’t just saying “sorry”; it’s doing a U-turn— heading away from sin and toward the Savior.

Then we confess Christ. Jesus said, “Whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 10:32) That means standing up and saying, “I belong to Jesus,” even when it’s not popular.

And yes, Jesus also calls us to be baptized. “He who believes and is baptized will be saved.” (Mark 16:16) Baptism isn’t about getting wet— it’s about dying to sin and rising to new life. Paul said, “Get up, be baptized, and wash your sins away, calling on His name.” (Acts 22:16) Once you’ve done that, the journey isn’t over—it’s just beginning. We’re told to remain faithful. “If you continue in My word, you are truly My disciples.” (John 8:31) Revelation 2:10 adds, “Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.”

And for those who’ve stumbled? God’s arms stay open. “Repent of this wickedness and pray to the Lord that He may forgive you.” (Acts 8:22) One prayer can bring you back into His grace.

Friend, salvation isn’t about being perfect—it’s about being His. If your heart’s asking, “What must I do to be saved?” the answer hasn’t changed: Hear. Believe. Repent. Confess. Be baptized. Remain faithful. Come home.
