Eufaula Lady Ironheads crush Idabel Warriors behind Green’s grand slam brilliance
By RODNEY HALTOM SPORTS EDITOR page B1

The Eufaula Lady Ironheads (8-11) lit up the scoreboard Tuesday night, cruising past the Idabel Warriors 15-0 in a dominant all-around performance. The victory was fueled by Leah Green’s clutch bat and overpowering arm, as the senior delivered one of the most memorable outings of the season.

Green not only struck fear from the circle, racking up 12 strikeouts and allowing just one hit over five shutout innings, but also delivered the biggest swing of the night. With the bases loaded in the fourth inning, Green turned on a pitch and blasted a grand slam to right field, sending the Eufaula dugout into a frenzy and sealing the rout.

Offensive Explosion

The Ironheads didn’t waste time putting pressure on Idabel. Rayleigh Peterson broke the ice in the second inning with a sharp RBI single. Then came a nine-run avalanche in the third inning that showcased Eufaula’s relentless lineup.

Briley Gragg drew a basesloaded walk to plate the first run, followed by an RBI single from Abby Box. Burkleigh Lange and Maddison Lee each drove in runs with productive outs before Hannah Needham ripped an RBI double. The rally continued as Emma Lovett delivered a two-run single, Ava Neill hammered a double, and Gragg capped the frame with another RBI double.

Eufaula kept pouring it on in the fourth inning, tacking on five more runs. Needham drove in one with a single, setting the stage for Green’s towering grand slam that pushed the lead to 15-0.

Lights-out pitching & steady defense

Green was simply untouchable in the circle, striking out batter after batter and never allowing the Warriors a chance to settle in. She didn’t issue a single walk, displaying command and poise from the opening pitch to the final out.

Her defense backed her up flawlessly, as the Ironheads played errorfree softball. Needham was steady at second base, handling 11 chances without a miscue, while the outfield locked down Idabel’s limited contact.

Balanced attack at the plate

The Ironheads tallied 14 hits on the night, with Needham leading the charge by going a perfect 3-for-3. Gragg, Peterson, and Box all collected multiple hits, while Lovett and Green each reached base twice on walks in addition to their hits. The Lady Ironheads were patient as well as powerful, drawing seven walks to keep pressure on Idabel’s pitching staff.

On the basepaths, Eufaula was fearless, stealing seven bases and constantly forcing the Warriors to stay on edge. Needham and Green led the charge with multiple swipes apiece.

Warriors silenced

For Idabel, it was a night where little went right. Starter Addison Boyd battled but was tagged for 15 runs (seven earned) on 14 hits in five innings. Myla Green recorded the lone hit for the Warriors, breaking up Leah Green’s no-hit bid.

Statement Win

With the win, the Lady Ironheads once again proved they’re a force to be reckoned with, showcasing depth at the plate, speed on the bases, airtight defense, and a true ace in Green. If this performance is any indication, Eufaula looks ready to make a serious run as the season heats up.

Peterson’s big bat powers Lady Ironheads past Sallisaw, 17-7 The Eufaula Lady Ironheads exploded at the plate Wednesday night, torching the Sallisaw Black Diamonds 17-7 behind a monster performance from senior Rayleigh Peterson, who drove in five runs on four hits.

Peterson was unstoppable, delivering RBI singles in the second, third, and sixth innings, including a pair of two-run shots that blew the game wide open.

Early Fireworks

Eufaula struck first on a sacrifice bunt from Emma Lovett in the opening inning, but Sallisaw answered back quickly with a two-run frame of their own. That was the only lead the Black Diamonds would see.

In the top of the second, Peterson ripped a two-run single to put the Lady Ironheads back on top, 3-2.

Offensive Onslaught The third inning turned into a nightmare for Sallisaw as Eufaula erupted for seven runs on five hits.

• Ayana Seirs singled in a run.

• Briley Gragg executed a perfect sacrifice bunt.

• Burkleigh Lange and Hannah Needham added RBI singles.

• Peterson kept rollfrom ing with another RBI knock.

• Lovett capped the rally with a two-run double.

The Ironheads weren’t finished. In the sixth, they piled on six more runs, highlighted by another two-run single from Peterson, a two-run double by Leah Green, and a clutch single from Lovett.

Pitching Strength

Green not only shined at the plate but also went the distance in the circle, scattering seven hits and striking out eight to earn the win.

Team Effort

Eufaula’s bats were blazing—14 hits and eight walks on the day. Lovett and Lange each had multiple hits, while Green’s patience at the plate led to a team-high three walks.

When the dust settled, the Lady Ironheads walked away with a convincing 17-7 victory, proving once again their lineup can put up runs in a hurry.
