Elaina Donahue’s Rett Run & Walk set for Sept. 20
By LaDonna Rhodes Staff Writer

The Elaina Donahue Rett Run & Walk is set for this Saturday, Sept.20 at 9 a.m. at the Checotah Sports Complex.

The Rett Run last year was started by a local family in hopes to bring awareness to this complex neurodevelopmental disorder that currently has no cure, but has brought out the goodness of others and the generosity of the small town of Checotah.

Elaina Grace wasn’t quite two years old when doctors diagnosed her with Rett Syndrome and she turned four in March. But her family and community is determined that she will not fight alone. Though it’s been a difficult road to walk down this family has been overwhelmed by the thoughtfulness and support of their community and friends who have literally come running to help them.

There are two raffles for Elaina Grace, a Twonight Stay at White Oak Hideaway and a Deep Clean by Lavender & Louise for one top to bottom cleaning of a residential home. Gypsy Dee’s Designs will have a Charm Bar Pop Up table d $10 per necklace goes towards bringing awareness to Rett Syndrome. Plus a wooden swing has been donated and more.

“Amazingly we set out on a mission a year ago to bring awareness to this disease. Today more people understand it and hopefully more scientists can work together to find a cure for it. We hope to continue to share Elaina Grace’s journey and want to encourage the community to come out and support the Rett Run & Walk.

Registration will open at 7:30 a.m. and the race will begin at 9 a.m. with I:40 Race Services.

The family wishes to say a special thank you to the City of Checotah for being the lead sponsor for the event. To be a sponsor, please reach out to Mindy Whittle-Hayes at mindydeannwhittle@ icloud.com or text her at 918-6177458. All proceeds go towards Elaina’s healthcare expenses.
