Updates on two special pound and county pups
By LaDonna Rhodes Staff Writer

Paws N Claws –Eufaula is pleased to that two of their special pound and county pups are thriving in their new homes and environments.

Alice, the Patrol Pup

Alice was a gypsy soul in a Great Pyrenees. She spent endless days and nights wandering around trying to find her place and her purpose in the Eufaula area until she finally ended up in the city pound.

Though the pound wasn’t the place for her either, it provided the platform she needed to be seen and adopted by new owners Mary and Jay Abbott of McAlester who welcomed Alice to their ranch and her new crew.

Alice had a fantastic first night where she slept in their bed all night and settled in to her new home.

Now she is living her best life – chilling by day and working the ranch by night. She has definitely found her purpose, her family and her forever home.

As Alice has learned the ropes of being a working ranch dog, one night recently the ranch hand saw Alice and one of their other dogs chase a feral hog off their property. Now Alice’s family is thrilled with her as she goes out each night to patrol and guard their livestock. She is doing the job she has been longing to do and she has found her pack and her place. Paws N Claws is tickled pink to keep getting positive updates on Alice and they want to thank everyone who helped Alice along the way.

Buddy, the Brave Pup

When Buddy was picked up by the side of the road off Texanna, he could barely walk. A kind lady, Jodi Collins couldn’t believe an animal could have every bone in their body protruded out and still have the will to survive. But Buddy did.

After taking Buddy to Dr. Aday, the veterinarian stated Buddy was extremely malnourished and anemic and may not survive even though he was finally rescued. However, Jodi didn’t give up and neither did Buddy. Slowly with the help of the community rallying behind Buddy to donate Pedialyte, high protein dogfood and lots of farm eggs, Buddy started putting on weight and was adopted into a new family where now he gets scrambled eggs every morning for breakfast and a nap on the couch afterwards.

Buddy has gone from being dumped outside to die to becoming a brave, inside pup who loves to be right beside his family.

Paws N Claws is again so grateful for a community who doesn’t just see the problems of animal abuse and abandonment, but rises to be a part of the solution of saving one at a time, just like Alice and Buddy.

8/5/25: Guys! “Buddy” went to his new forever home today with Everything donated went with him. Thank you all for rallying for this sweet soul. We have the BEST followers! He is going to be the best dog ever- he knows he was rescued. They ALWAYS know! Thanks again, Jodi Collins, for saving him!
