Glen Edward Calvin, 54, of Wilburton, has been bound over for trial for the Dec. 18, 2024, shooting death of Brenda Wilson, 63, at a residence they shared in the remote Paradise Hill area north of Eagle Bluff southwest of Eufaula.
Wilson died of a single shot from a .22 caliber handgun to the lower right front side of her neck.
At a preliminary hearing on Wednesday, Aug. 20, witnesses testified that on the night of the shooting, Calvin claimed it was an accident.
Investigators Matthew Youngblood, with the McIntosh County Sheriff ’s Office, and Kevin Branscum, with the District Attorney’s office, testified that Calvin gave two different versions of what happened on the night of the shooting.
Calvin allegedly said he and Wilson were sitting on a bed and he was holding a revolver that accidentally discharged. He also allegedly said he dropped the handgun and it fired when it hit his leg.
Five law enforcement officers testified during the two-hour hearing.
At the conclusion, Associate District Judge Brendon Bridges bound the defendant over for trial on two charges for possible jurors to consider, firstdegree murder with deliberate intent and murder in the second degree.
Bridges ordered Calvin back for a plea at district court arraignment on Sept. 11 at 9 a.m.
When officers arrived at the scene at about 10 p.m. the night of Aug. 20, Calvin reportedly was standing on the front porch of the house and waved for them to come in while he went back inside and began administering CPR.
The victim was on her back on the bed.
Witnesses described the scene as having blood spattered all over the room; Wilson’s head was at the south end of the bed; on the wall above her head there was a round indention in the sheetrock and several marks of a knife having been used to stab the wall; on the bed was a .22 caliber pistol and a straight-edged knife which contained sheetrock dust; there were sheetrock fragments and dust in her hair; there were powder burns on her skin.
