Wilma Dean (Martin) Burns

Wilma Dean (Martin) Burns, age 88, of Mellette, Oklahoma passed away peacefully on August 8, 2025. Wilma was born on May 14, 1937, in Mellette to General Lee Martin and Ellen Mae (Brown) Martin.

Wilma attended Mellette School District 6 until she began helping on the family farm doing everything from gathering corn, drawing water from the well, and chasing cattle that escaped to the river.

On December 11, 1954, Wilma married her longtime friend and love, Leon Burns. They were blessed with two children, Stevie and Alan. Wilma and Leon were married for 68 years.

Wilma loved spending time with family, arrowhead hunting, crappie fishing, working in her flower gardens,

crocheting, collecting antiques, traveling, and making her grandchildren’s favorite desserts.

She was a member of the Burns Chapel Church of God in Mellette, Oklahoma since 1947. Her love and devotion to Jesus were well known.

Wilma is survived by her son Alan Burns and wife Susie; daughterin- law, Judy Burns; sister Carol McQuay and husband Leon; grandchildren; Jimmy Burns and wife Paula, Tina Burns and husband Rob, Jason Burns and wife Kandrea, Amanda Burns and husband Brian, and A.J. Burns and wife Dana; greatgrandchildren; Emily, Ethan, Hannah, Tristen, Daxton and wife Autumn, Kyler and wife Emalee, Gracie and Wyatt; great-great grandchildren; Zade, Zailey, Kace, Khloe, Oaklyn and Cella; and a host of family and close friends that she loved deeply.

Wilma is preceded in death by her husband Leon; her son Stevie; parents General and Ellen, and brothers Albert, Harold “Big Boy”, Thomas and Jerry; sisters Bonnie, Jodie and Ella June.

A funeral service was held at 1 p.m., Friday, August 15, 2025, at the Eufaula Church of God with Roger Burns officiating.

Pallbearers were Jimmy Burns, AJ Burns, Ethan Mulliniks, Daxton Burns, Kyler Burns and Daniel Burns.

Honorary Pallbearers were Jason Burns, Roger and Regina Burns, Virgil and Susie Neu, Lloyd and Deneisa Calvert.

Proceeded in death by honorary pallbearer Shane Laughlin.

Burial followed at Mellette Cemetery under the direction of Hunn Black & Merritt Funeral Home & Crematory.
