The Checotah Lady Wildcats stormed into Sallisaw on Monday night and walked away with a commanding 8-3 victory over Sallisaw in the season opener, putting on a hitting clinic and proving they’re a team to watch.

Checotah wasted no time making noise, with Shaelynn Casey ripping a double in the first inning to plate two early runs. Sallisaw clawed back in the bottom of the second, stringing together three RBI singles to grab a 3-2 lead.

But the Wildcats weren’t about to back down. In the top of the fifth, they unleashed an offensive flurry—Lexi Miller lined a single to right, Carly Dismukes followed with a shot to center, and Shyanne Madewell drilled one down the right field line. After Dismukes tagged up and scored, Casey struck again with a single down the left field line, each knock bringing in a run and putting Checotah back in control.

From the circle, Casey was equally impressive—going the distance with seven solid innings, holding Sallisaw to just six hits and three runs while fanning five. Her counterpart couldn’t contain the Wildcats, surrendering 10 hits and eight runs, with Checotah showing patience at the plate and drawing six walks.

The bats were on fire—Layna Vandiver and Casey each tallied two hits, with Casey leading the charge with three RBIs. Sydnie West drew a pair of walks, helping fuel the offensive momentum. In all, the Lady Wildcats’ disciplined approach and timely hitting proved too much for Sallisaw to handle.

Checotah now turns its sights to Hilldale, where they’ll look to keep the streak rolling on the road Thursday.
