The City of Eufaula held an open house at City Hall Friday, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
For two hours the public had an opportunity to take part in a meet-and-greet, where they were able to visit with City Manager Jacob Foos Fire Chief Greg Carmack, Mayor James Hickman and District 15 State Representative Tim Turner (R-15).
Among issues brought up was a recent decision by the city council to approve a zoning change on SH9 west of town from a CG-Commercial General to an IMIndustrial to allow a business owner to put in a portable concrete batch plant.
Mayor James Hickman said a few negative calls had been received, but at the time of the approval by the council no one appeared to complain, even though letters had been sent to surrounding neighbors.
The project is moving forward.
Chris Wallace with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation to answer questions about the upcoming Main Street project, which entails repaving the street from about the concrete plant on the south to the end of town on the north.
That stretch of Main Street is State Highway 9.
Wallace said ODOT is doing everything it can to make the project as painless as possible, including doing most of the work at night.
“The game plan is to start after Labor Day and be done in 90 days,” he said.
He said the project is being broken up into thirds.
“Right now from the concrete plant to the McDonald’s is the first third. We’re going to grind down the asphalt for the most part, but there’s a couple of areas that will require work on the concrete. Then we’re put asphalt back on the road.”
The second third will be from McDonald’s to Sonny’s grocery and the final site will be from Sonny’s to around Selmon Road.
