In Matthew 5:33– 48, Jesus closes out chapter 5 of the Sermon on the Mount by presenting three final antitheses—correcting misinterpretations of the law and raising the standard for His followers. These teachings call us not only to honor God vertically, but to reflect His character horizontally—in how we treat one another. In short: Jesus wants us to treat others as extravagantly as God has treated us.
