Eufaula roper Blake Deckard has been consistently in the top 10 of world standings all spring and early summer, working to his second consecutive national finals qualification. His earnings at Cheyenne will definitely boost his position. Cheyenne is 1/2 way through Deckard’s season; it’s rodeo #25 of 50 that he will attend this PRCA season. Success at Cheyenne is always a goal for cowboys, the rodeo has so much history, the set up is tough and the money is big.
He’s riding his roan gelding, Traveler, again this year; he qualified for his first national finals in 2024.
It was an emotional rodeo for Deckard, losing his mentor Roy Cooper, who passed away in April, was tough and Cheyenne was always a special rodeo for Cooper, being there without him was extremely tough for Deckard who cherished his relationship with Cooper.
“Bill Duvall was another mentor and hero of Blake’s his whole career and losing another legend was hard. After the funeral he goes to Deadwood, South Dakota,” Audra Deckard said.
