Former Checotah Wildcats football standout and now assistant coach Drew Dan will be featured in the 2025 Gridiron Guide. Dan had an exceptional football career at Checotah before receiving a scholarship from New Mexico State University and finished his college career at University of Illinois under head coach Lovie Smith (former head coach of Chicago Bears).
Dan was an All-Stater and competed in football, basketball and track while at Checotah.
His level of competitiveness and work ethic was unmatched and it has paid off for the 6’, 185-pound athlete. Dan is known for his speed, his hands and athleticism. Dan led Oklahoma in 2014, his junior year, in kick-off returns with 888 yards on 33 returns, averaging 27 yards per return while scoring four touchdowns.
In-addition to his special teams skills, Dan is a star receiver that led the Wildcats with 1,110 yards on 48 attempts, averaging 23 yards per catch while scoring 13 touchdowns. However, Dan’s ability on the field is not limited to the offensive side of the ball. He is a phenomenal defensive back as he caught three interceptions, made 73 tackles and grabbed four fumble recoveries with a touchdown in 2014.
In 2015 Dan led Checotah to a victory over Eufaula in the 100th meeting by scoring five touchdowns in every way possible in football. The rest of Dan’s stats will be in the feature article in the 2025 Gridiron Guide.
